Architecture / Urbanism / Public life

Architecture begins between buildings.

Vakkosalmi Park by Grigorii SalinSA / 01

Salin Architect is an international architecture and urbanism practice founded by Grigorii Salin. We shape places around daily life — how people move, meet, pause and belong.

Explore the practice

Life first. Then space. Then buildings.

A people-first sequence inspired by the humanist urban thinking of Jan Gehl — developed through our own observations, local partnerships and architectural craft.

Twelve real projects. One continuous practice.

A first curated portfolio spanning architecture, heritage, public landscapes, waterfronts, hospitality, housing and social infrastructure. The five opening projects are drawn directly from the 2025 design dossier; seven earlier works establish the longer line of practice. New commissions are developed as Salin Architect.

Roadside Service Complex

Architecture · Retail & food · Krasnogorsk

Project documentation · 2025

A civic alternative to the anonymous roadside box: shops, food venues and parking are organised as a rhythmic sequence of pitched-roof volumes, united by a calm pastel material palette.

House of the Tomilovs

Heritage architecture · Adaptive reconstruction

Project documentation · 2025

A careful reconstruction of a historic manor house, restoring the low timber silhouette, generous hipped roof and veranda while adapting the building for contemporary use.

Market & Food Hall in Novy

Architecture · Mixed retail · Moscow Region

Project documentation

A double-height glazed public hall is framed by folded roofs, deep timber soffits and a sheltered entrance canopy, turning everyday retail into a recognisable neighbourhood destination.

Ladoga Fortress Entrance

Visitor centre · Restaurant · Heritage landscape

Project documentation · 2025

A low curved visitor complex mediates between the fortress landscape and the lake: local stone, dark timber, arched openings and a glazed pavilion create a contemporary but respectful threshold.

Vakkosalmi Park — Rock Garden

Landscape · Public life · Sortavala, Karelia

Landscape and architectural documentation · 2025

A park-wide public-life framework reconnects forest, granite slope and water through a new entrance centre, play landscape, stage, tea house, pier and accessible waterfront routes.

Welna Eco Spa Resort

Hospitality · Masterplan · Kaluga Region

Earlier practice · Selected

A landscape-led hospitality concept that places accommodation, spa programmes and walking routes within the existing woodland structure.

Sovetskaya Square Park

Public realm · Rzhev

Earlier practice · Selected

A civic park structured around everyday routes, meeting places and a clear sequence of open and sheltered public rooms.

Dubna Embankment

Waterfront · Public space · Dubna

Earlier practice · Selected

A continuous riverfront system combining promenade, rest points, planting and access to the water at a distinctly human scale.

Onega City Park

Urban landscape · Onega

Earlier practice · Selected

A resilient northern park where simple paths, social clearings and local landscape character support year-round civic life.

Rehabilitation & Hippotherapy Centre

Social architecture · Inclusive design

Earlier practice · Selected

An inclusive environment where architecture, landscape and movement are coordinated around therapy, dignity and ease of orientation.

Tyumen City Mall Plaza

Public realm · Tyumen

Earlier practice · Selected

A commercial forecourt reworked as a legible public address with generous pedestrian space, planting and places to pause.

Tarusa Houses & Reception

Residential · Hospitality · Tarusa

Earlier practice · Selected

A family of compact houses and reception spaces tied together by restrained materials, landscape continuity and a shared sense of arrival.

One territory. One clear idea for change.

We select a real place — a neglected square, waterfront, district edge, resort landscape or small-town centre — and develop an independent concept before there is a formal commission. Each study begins with everyday life and turns observation into a practical spatial scenario.

01

Choose the place

A territory with real potential, a visible problem and people whose daily life can improve.

02

Read its life

Movement, comfort, climate, ecology, identity, ownership and the rhythms already present.

03

Build the concept

A clear vision, public-life strategy, spatial moves, quick wins and realistic phasing.

04

Share and invite

We publish the proposal and invite municipalities, communities, owners and collaborators to take it further.

From eye-level evidence to lasting change.

01 / Observe+

We start in the street: mapping movement, comfort, edges, climate and the rhythms of public life.

02 / Listen+

Local knowledge enters the brief through interviews, workshops and direct collaboration.

03 / Frame+

We turn complex conditions into a clear vision, priorities and measurable design principles.

04 / Test+

Scenarios, prototypes and competitions make bold ideas tangible before major investment.

05 / Deliver+

Architecture, public space and implementation guidance keep the human experience intact.

One practice, from strategy to detail.

Grigorii Salin

Founder · Architect · Urbanist

Grigorii Salin has worked across architecture, urbanism and landscape since 2008. After establishing the Urban Architect practice, he led projects ranging from parks, squares and waterfronts to hospitality, housing, sport and community infrastructure. Salin Architect is the next chapter: a founder-led studio registered in Belgrade and built for international work.

His architectural imagination is deeply shaped by Alvar Aalto — the warmth of natural materials, humane modernism and the continuity between building and landscape. He is also a devoted admirer of Jan Gehl’s life-first urban thinking: observe how people live, shape the space around that life, and only then form the buildings. The studio brings these influences into its own research, local partnerships and precise architectural work.

Salin Architect collaborates with architects, landscape designers, researchers, engineers, municipalities, developers and cultural institutions wherever a project needs a wider table.
